Three pieces are published. Each covers a body of research, names the people who produced it, and reports the objections raised in the literature.
- 01 · Conversation analysis · 14 June 2026 Repair in ordinary conversation Schegloff, Jefferson and Sacks described a system by which speakers handle trouble in talk. A twelve-language study asked whether it holds beyond English, and an argument inside the field asks whether it can be counted at all.
- 02 · Methods · 2 July 2026 Prediction and replication in marital conflict research Laboratory studies reported high accuracy in forecasting separation. Heyman and Slep showed what those figures do when the model meets a sample it was not built on.
- 03 · Social psychology · 29 July 2026 What apology research measures Lewicki, Polin and Lount separated apologies into six components and asked participants to rate them. The design supports a specific conclusion, and less than the coverage of it implied.
How pieces are chosen
A piece is commissioned when three conditions hold: there is a body of peer-reviewed work on the question, at least one substantial published objection to it, and a gap between what the studies measured and how they have been summarised elsewhere. The masthead sets out the process in full.
Affterwords publishes slowly and does not run a schedule. Nothing is published to fill a slot.
